Am wondering if anyone can give their opinion on whether its a good idea to book flights early new year to go out to Adelaide to try obtain job sponsor?? Hubbie is spark and we have sold house but in such a dilemma as to pull out of house sale with it all so bleak for the outlook of getting our visa in the near future so am wondering if its worth booking flights for us to go as a family on a 3 week holiday to see if hubbie can get some interviews and try to get employment sponsorship or does anyone know if this would be quite difficult to do?? Would any employers do this or is it just to much hassle for them as they have to prove they cant fill the vacancy over there etc dont they?? Any advice would be great, we need to make big decisions and running out of time!!

Hi there,

From personal experience I have been finding that unless you are living there its very difficult to secure a job, we were there recently validating our visa's and I had a couple of meetings with agencies. This was in the I.T. sector, so not sure if its different for other occupations. With you mentioning that you need a sponsor I assume you do not currently have a visa? I guess if your hubby is very specialised then he may find a sponsor, if not, then it could be quite difficult as there are qualified people over there without work.

If you have never been to SA before, it might be worth the trip anyway, to get a feel for the place and the reality of the jobs on offer. But it can be an expensive trip.

I would thoroughly recommend a reccie trip - we did it, and I've never regretted the expense. Adelaide was not what we expected in some respects, but far surpassed our expectations in others - I don't think we'd have found it so easy to settle, had we not known what to expect. But if it's purely for job-seeking, then I'd save your money - I had a meeting with an agency whilst out here on that trip but they weren't interested until we'd made the move...... It's a tough call - your OH might get lucky?

Hope it all works out for you,

Sharon.
