we have been here just over a week now.arrived to glorious sunshine 39 degrees every day.staying in a 3 bed short term rental in port adelaide over looking the port with plenty of dolphins to see.(bit different to the Thames).semaphore beach is only 2 minutes drive up the road.Have been to the city to validate bank accounts ,apply for tax file number and get medicare cards.all are simple and quick processes.customer service in shops and banks etc has been excellent so far and people are very helpful.they seem proud you chose to come to their country.so far found food shopping reasonable.meat is cheap.also would not have bought so many clothes with us.summer wear here seems reasonable.so far only needed boardies,t shirts and thongs(flip flops).all good so far...suppose i better start looking for a job soon.anyway better go now, kids want to go to the beach

all the best Steve,Nick and kids

congratulations you seem well on your way to being settled. Looking for a job and a long term rental were high on our list. We have been here nearly five weeks now and sometimes it feels like we have been here ages and sometimes like we have only been here 5 mintutes!

Good luck settling in.

Guest Stella and Dave

Hi to you all and welcome,

we went through all the same processes nine weeks ago, everyone was so helpful and Semaphore is our favourite beach also, food in the Palais is good and not too expensive, and free parking everywhere, cheap day out.

We find shopping not too bad, we shop pretty much like we did at home and always buy stuff on offer, yellow label etc and clothes are also fine if you shop around, K Mart, Target etc are fine.

We did have one BIG blip, Dave bought a car and left sorting out the insurance until he got home, 3 minutes off the car lot and bang $6000 bill to fix it Ouch, we took our eye off the ball there (don't know why, we would never have done that in UK). So if you buy a car, you will get third party when you pay the rego but it does not cover damage to vehicle, so make sure you sort out fully comp insurance before you set off, that little mistake has eaten a big chunk out of our funds I can tell you! Otherwise all good. best of luck, Stella
