i used to love these when i was back in soggy stalybridge so here goes. Arrived last friday morning to blue skies and sunshine. The last two weeks in the uk were horrendous, i have never cried so much, it was the hardest thing i have ever had to do saying goodbye to everyone at various do's its awful, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Bit of a panic the night before because we were over our weight allowance, we'd already sent three boxes over so everything had to go in the cases or not come. As it was, the girl at SIA check in must have taken pity on me (i was crying again at this point) as we were about 15kg over and she didnt charge us.

Picked up the hire car and with the boys buried under luggage set off for Roo rentals Lorikeet in Hallett Cove (lovely place, thanks Judi) even being cross eyed with exhaustion it felt so right being here.

Saturday and Sunday flew by in a haze of jet lag and finding our feet, driving round to make sure we definitely wanted Seaford area.

Monday had to go to the city to pick up bank cards etc then looked at a couple of cars, applied for tax file nos.

tuesday - went to see a primary school, went to a house open - quite bizarre and sorted driving licences, bought a car

wednesday - went to another house open, and another primary school picked up new car, celebrated sams 40th, got the second house.

Thursday - went to third primary school then the beach while sam went for a couple of interviews.

~Friday - took back rental car, went to beach- need to chill for a few days now.

Love the place already.. no question.

lots of people were quite doubtful we'd get a rental in seaford area apparently its really popular but i took the advice on here and included a hand written letter say how we were a professional couple, very particular (not) will look after the house as though its mine etc etc and offering 4 months rent in advance. Even both of us being unemployed that seemed to swing it so we were really lucky.

Knackered now, need to chill for a few days, going to explore the various beaches for the easter weekend. Theres no doubt i'm going to like it here, cant wait to move into the rental at the end of this month, i can finally settle down a bit then, we've been like gypsies since november.

Hi there, i just want to say ello from a fellow Stalybridge family. Sounds like you have had a hectic week, hope you enjoy the easter weekend, if you need any help just pm me.

And i also wanted to say we had simlilar sorts of problems at manchester airport with our suitcases being over weight, we had to take loads of our stuff out and carry it all on as hand luggage, what a start to our new life.

I am sure we will laugh about it one day lol.

Hey, didn't realise the Stalyvegas crew were here.

Have a meet up some time, we come from Woodley so not far from you.

Bit chilly on the beach at the moment but must seem warmer than back where we're from.

Hey man is there a sports club near where you used to live called Woodley sports Club and have they got bowling greens?

Bit off topic but you know me

What a first week but how exciting, I am so jealous can't wait until we are running around. Your insight and feedback regarding the primary schools would be useful especially the costs, what they were like etc.

Have a rest before next otherwise you will burn yourselves out.

Regards

Dawn

i'm hoping to make it tomorrow, it would be great to speak to someone other than my darling husband for half an hour!!!

As far as schools go, we visited all three in the seaford area, all seem very well resourced, large bright and airey, everyone is so enthusiastic its really nice. There's nothing to choose between them from one brief visit so we have just decided to send the youngest to seaford rise as its the closest to our rental, we'll see how it goes. The eldest will be going to seaford 6-12.

It'll be great to meet up.

So pleased for you - it must be great escaping this British 'Spring' even if you will be coming into winter soon! I've been reading lots of posts on here and am becoming quite tearful. We so want to be in Adelaide with our family but we are at the very beginning of our 'journey' and it could take 2 years.

Have a wonderful new life 'down under' If you want to adopt a granny in a couple of year's time - let me know! Til then, Happy Easter

Add another 20 years and you'll be nearly there! Hey, I could start up a whole new busness to keep me out of mischief once we arrive!

Shades...

They used to have a under 18s night on Sunday night...

I remember getting as much grog down your neck before we got there on the 388 or 389 bus.

Dont remember the bus trip back!

Jekyll's in Hyde is now a curry house that has tribute acts on never went but believe it was OK.

We should all meet up soon and swop stories from the area.
