Hi All,

 

Any advice on buying travel insurance to immigrate should we buy backpacker cover for 1 year that includes medical cover or single trip and buy medicare when we land in.

We used Down Under Travel Insurance and just bought enought to cover the flight for a few days - its was specialist one way immigration cover. You wont need to 'buy' Medicare as its covered under a recipricol agreement with the UK.

Please be careful about this. You need specialist one way insurance for migration. We used Go Walkabout too.

 

Normal travel insurance only works if you are returning to the UK. It will generally not cover you for a one way migration journey, so you will need to check carefully with any travel insurance company that you are covered for migration. Go Walkabout gave you I think 3 or 4 weeks cover after arrival, so time to get yourself organised with Medicare.
