Importing personal tools

Hi All

 

Could anyone give me any advise on bringing my general hand tools over. how clean do they need to be ect

 

(Basic tools screw drivers, spanners, saws, Etc Etc)

Quarantine are looking for mud and wood boring insect mainly.

Bear that in mind.no mud,no sawdust.

Nice coat of oil or washed in a strong smelling disinfectant should do it.

Yup,Jeyes fluid is the best,as the smell tells them you have disinfected your tools.Any surface rust i just rubbed with emery paper and sprayed WD40 on,no problems.ATB .

That takes me back - less than 2 years ago but it feels like a different life. Spent many a happy weekend in the shed scrubbing tools with Jeyes and then coating with WD-40. It's funny how your threshold of what's worth cleaning and what should be donated to a good home changes as the day goes on.

 

Assuming you're sending your tools by sea, it's well worth investing in some VCI packaging to stop any rust forming while they're on their travels

You will need to coat all the stuff in WD 40 anyway to stop the rust, blow all the saw dust off saws with compresed air, i was warned about oil contamination but never did understand that to be honest used oil is used no matter where you are in the world.

Same as same as..good cleaning then drowned them in WD40...the smellis enough for them not to open the boxes i reckon...

But we are no specialists on this subject as it has been known for them to find any excuse to charge people for stuff to be cleaned.destroyed...

 

Just give them a good clean and spray up....

What is VCI .

I think VCI stands for something like Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor, it just helps to stop things rusting. It's in that bit of waxy brown paper you sometimes get with tools or electronics, or I got some VCI film bags to stick all my tools in.
