Finally decided!! Now need advice!!

Hi guys,

Well after 4 years thinking about it, we've decided to do it--- live in Adelaide! Can someone advise us on which is the quickest way to do do this? We want to apply for visa (175) asap, would it be best to apply via an immigration company or do it ourselves? Also can you give us some sort of idea how much applications costs, with or without company. The big problem for me is i'm going to be 45 yrs old in December 2011. My job here in Wales is an advanced nurse practitioner, so i'll need to register there too.

Really grateful for any advice as we don't want to waste anymore time.

PR175's will cost you around £1500 each with health checks and police clearances if you did it alone, as long as you have enough points to get visa i would do it yourself, it will probably take you about a year. Cant say what an agent costs coz i didnt use one. Im an OT working in community team in south, im from Wales too, where you from there?

There will be a lot of folk on here who will tell you you don't need a migration agent and maybe you don't but you should at least take advantage of the free initial assessment you can get from many of them. John Adams of Immigration2Oz will give you a no obligation opinion about your chances of getting a visa then you can decide whether you think you can go it alone from then on. If you can get to any of the emigration exhibitions coming up in the near future you may be able to get a free session with several of them and compare what they say. Check out the migration press to find out which UK exhibitions the agents will be attending and make use of the chance to find out as much as you can. You could also check out those agencies specialising in placing nurses over here - there are loads of nurses who post regularly on PIA and they will be able to help you out with contact details. You can also approach the hospitals here directly - again the nurses on here will no doubt be answering your posts with loads of useful info and advice.

Thanks for the info. We are from Aberdare, South Wales, and you? How long have you been there and what do you think? We are looking at living South too. We came out in Feb/March with BBC - wanted down under, and loved it, especially Moana - Seaford - up to Henley really, saying that we liked all areas from North coast right down to Noarlunga!

Hi my Dad was from Aberamman, so i know the area well, but i was brought up in Ammanford Been here 5 months now living in marion in a rental but im looking to buy in Hallett Cove area very soon, i loved Seaford/Port Noarluna too, but just feel its a little too far out for me now with regards to work visiting city etc. Drop me a pm if you need any advice what field is your nursing background. Hi Bev, as long as you've logged your application before your 45 birthday you will be fine, it's up to them after that how long it takes. We logged ours in August 2007 just before o/h turned 45 in December, and visa was granted in May 2008. I know now it takes longer.

Aberaman, hey!! Small world!! I work in general practice here, but have finished my MSc nurse practitioner course amd independent prescribing. I know NP's are relatively new in SA, so i'll probably have to go into the hospital environment, but i dont mind. Have you got a family out there? My husband is a tiler and we have a 10 yr old son. No family here, dont know anybody lol....got a 7 month old so not much opportunity to meet people as of yet. Tiler hey, should be loads of work for him here, n/p are new indeed in sa and are quite rare, im in psychiartry myself, have you looked at any hospitals? i would suggest Noarlunga, and Flinders if you would like to live south. As KP says as long as its lodged before you are 45 its ok.

If you have a straight forward case go it alone. But if there are any complications an agent is a must.

We had heaps of grief but the agent helped enormously and here we are today. Probably wouldnt have made it otherwise.

We used Ian Harrop and associates in Oxford.

We used an agent, and came via 475 visa. it costed us around 3000 pounds for the agent and the visa application, but this before medical. We also submitted the application when I was 44. As other has said, as long as you submit before 45, you will be allright.

Ok Register as a nurse with the NBSA (Nursing Board of South Australia) to do this go to http://www.nursesboard.sa.gov.au/ where you will find what info you need to send them.

Once you are registered you then only need to do the modified skill assessment not the full monty. Send your skill assessment off to ANMC (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council) http://www.anmc.org.au/docs/Internat...20original.pdf

 

You can just do the skill assessment without first registering but would then have to do the full assessment http://www.anmc.org.au/docs/Internat...07original.pdf

You don't need to be registered to be skill assessed or to apply for the visa but it does save money and time on the skill assessment front. Hope this makes sense and helps. Any probs let me know.

We were in the same boat, I wanted to come for years and hubby just decided that he did too!

We used The Visa Bureau who were brilliant and they got everything through in time for us.

We arrive on 1st December and are also headed south.

We have Mollie (12) and Alfie (10)

The absoulte quickest way to go would be to get a job here now (via telephone interview) and come out on a 457 visa and ask them to sponsor you for a RSMS PR visa. That way you could be here in as little as 3 months and be a resident in 6-9 months!!! Nursing is pretty good for sponsoring as long as you can secure yourself a permenant role! You could also start your 175 visa app now and get here on a 457 (like we have) Not everyone has it easy with the DIAC but you may be one of the lucky ones! All the best!

Also The UK nurse prescribing course is as much as useless here, when I enquired to use mine, I was as much as told that I would have to repeat the course here in Aus at my own expense, needless to say I haven't bothered!!! My SCPHN qualification is as good as null and void here!!!

Really helpful. I am trying to find out about my nurse practitioner qualification. I know I have to complete an application for endorsement as a nurse practitioner, but what i'm finding difficult to establish, is whether I got to register as a RGN first and then get endorsed after!!

Apparently, the nurse practitioner role is different here so I don't know whether a UK qualification in that would hold any water. I would email your CV off to a few hospitals here explaining your looking at moving here and so will be looking for work in the near future and ask them about it. I'm sure at least one hospital will get back to you and let you know.
