HI there, any advise would be great.

I am a nurse who has just turned 40 and looking to migrate to adelaide with hubby and 3 children. Got my ielts booked for next saturday, and then was going to apply to anmc for skills assessment, HOWEVER, heard that it is going to take months and really panicing as after july i wont qualify (as only have 12 months work experience).

At this stage we dont care what visa we get out on - the quickest one poss really as would try to get perm once out there.

Can anyone please advise the best thing for us to do - am DESPARATE to migrate and know that ANMC skills assessment then state sponsorship time lines will run past July and cant afford to throw away money on just a whim. Can't migrate on hubby as he does not have the formal education as required!

Would appreciate any advise maybe if there is any other way or visa we can go for that would get us out there!

Thanks for any advise!

You'll get in no problem. They will still accept you. Australia needs nurses so badly. So no need to panic.....

:-)

Ah wish that was only true - i wont make the points after July, does anyone know if it is easy enough to get employment sponsorship??? (with only one years experience - by the way i am a community staff nurse - but am willing to work in any remit)

Thanks for getting in touch

Go for permanent visa.

the time scale is too short, by the time i get ielts results (and that is hoping i get 7 overall) will be mid march and then ANMC are taking months to process skills assessments - then for the state sponsorship - it will be past july and according to the new points system i wont qualify.

just wondering if there is another way??

Why won't you qualify..the cut off age is 45.

Go down the 176 sponsership route...nursing is in huge demand.

Or failing that..apply for a job from the uk and come on a 457 job sponsership visa.

Thanks for your reply: i wont qualify because i have just turned 40, only have one years experience - so with state sponsorship - the new changes in july works out i only reach around 40 points where you need 65 to qualify.

Could you advise best way to apply for job from here as 457 visa would be great.

Thanks again!!

You'll need to ask other nurses on this site.....many seem to come on work visas and then after a few months they apply for permanent residency.

There are recruitment agencies in the uk that specialise in getting you jobs in oz...but that's all I know.

Thanks Lisa

Have been in touch with them before re 176 and they are the ones that said will not make the july deadline. Just so fed up as was waiting for my years experience to then apply and they change all the criteria!! aghhhh... will have to find a way!

Good luck to you!

I would get your ANMC in asap, mine didn't take months last year. Send by private courier and not Royal mail, to speed things up and then check their online tracker regularly, you will see on there when a positive assessment has been made, way before you get the letter of determination you need. It seems to be the AHPRA nursing reg that is taking so long. Get everything ready for the State Sponsorship application then, and as soon as you have positive skills assessment, apply online, this is the only part that is free! Then you have 30 days to forward all your supporting documents, again use private courier for speed.

Meanwhile, you could look into a temp visa with an agency. I went through O'Grady Peyton, they have been helpful but I have gone for perm 176 rather then a temp visa.

All in all, get going quick and you may make it!

We used IAN HARROP and associates, do a quick search and find there contact details, I am sure they will find a way for you to get to Australia. They had various ways for us to get here if you give them a call they'll give you some advice.

Look at a company called Healthscope they run a number of hospitals/clinics in Oz and recently saw them advertising for nurses. Have no idea as to what criteria they use for selection or how much experience you would need but worth having a look and asking. Maybe you could also contact various hospitals and see if they are recruiting and are prepared to sponsor.
