Under Construction»Bound for South Australia 1836

History is about to repeat itself. In 1836 nine ships set sail from England to establish the Province of South Australia. 175 years later, History SA invites all South Australians to relive those amazing journeys across thousands of miles of ocean, as the passengers and crew make the journey of a lifetime.

Bound for South Australia is a digital re-enactment of those nine voyages, made between February and December 1836. It uses a range of source material, including original captains’ and passenger journals, letters, and passenger lists. These sources combine to provide a very real account of the people on the vessels – their hopes and fears, moments of excitement and of terror.

In weekly episodes subscribers and visitors will meet the people, share their experience and discover what it meant to journey to the other side of the world.

Passage onboard is open to everyone. Join the journey at Under Construction»Bound for South Australia 1836. Weekly entries will be posted on the website, or subscribers can receive email updates and notifications of new posts, or follow the action on a twitter feed.

The first ships set sail from the website on 22 February 2011.
