Document Certification

For the Skills Assesment, the ACS (Australian Computer Society) need me to get several documents certified, and give a long list of Australians who can certify them but are a bit vague for overseas certification.

 

Can someone tell me the best/cheapest/quickest place to get my docs certified?

I've got one of the directors of the company i work for to certify my documents as they would do for passport applications etc.

 

I like many probably have a load of documents to send as evidence etc. Around 50 at the last count.

 

Hopefully they will be accepted first time. Its a bit like Christmas isnt it, in that you send your letter to Santa in June then have to wait until Christmas Day to find out if you've got what you asked for. But more painful.

Thanks Charlie&donna - unfortunately, i'll have to look elsewhere for my certification since I really don't want my company knowing anything about my intentions to immigrate.

 

I suppose you can ask people like your doctor etc?

Did think about getting our GP to sign them, but as they charge 25 quid a document (have done in the past) we thought it best not to bother.

We took ours to a local solicitor who charged £5 per document.

Will bear that in mind, looks like there are several options - i will shop around for the cheapest. I just hope that won't be a stumbling block with the SS - in terms of them rejecting the person that certifies them.

I used a solicitor cost £20 and that was with the ex employer sworn statements

Hi, I had my VETASSESS docs certified by a migration agent. He charged me a fee of £200 but there were a lot of documents to certify. It was also useful as he provided some advice about which visa to apply for and the documents we needed to submit. Will all the points system changes it was also useful to discuss this.

 

I have not used an agent for the State Sponsorship application and don't intend to use one for the 176 (assuming SS is approved). I think the hard part was understanding the state sponsorship requirements, the visa process (IELTS etc) then making that initial application. I think we got a good deal for £200.

Hi Clare, that does seem reasonable for the assistance with the skills assesment. I think i will struggle through myself, it seems that ACS will contact you if you miss something to give you chance to submit it.

I went through ACS skills assessment at the start of the year, due to time restrictions to try and gedt both the assessment and SA state sponsorship through before 1st July(old DIAC points system) I decided to use a migration agent and went with Peter at PTlabs who specialises in IT, if you're looking for any assistance Peter's your man.

 

As for getting your docs certified you can use a Notary Public who will charge a fee £20 - £40 or look up your local Justice of the Peace who will carry out signing docs for free.

I emailed a few local solicitors and one got back to me saying they'd certify all my docs for about 25 quid (can't remember exactly). I'm not sure they anticipated me turning up with a wheelbarrow full of stuff ...

Just a note on this subject,

 

You will need to get something else done at a later date believe me!

 

There will be something a couple of months down the line that you did not expect.

 

When we did ours we used the solicitor that we used to sell the house.

 

That way you are on good terms and they should keep the cost down.

Hi mark, I got an absolute shedload of stuff certified for free by a local justice of the peace. You just phone up the court nearest to you, or check out its website and make an appointment for a meeting, ours was always a friday afternoon and you just wait around for a bit till your turn comes up, solicitors in my area were going to be very expensive as i had a lot of paper work so i looked into other options. Hope this helps.

Hi MarkWe made a list of all the solicitors in our local area and phoned each one. Its amazing how they charge so differently! At the skills ass stage we went with 40 docs and asked for 2 copys certified (this proved to be handy later on down the process) we got charged £55 for the lot. One solicitor quoted us £350!!!! Unbelieveable! We also went back to the same sols twice with the rest if our docs. He charged £5 for a witnessed doc. Hope this helpsNat & Gaz
