Hi there,

We are going to obviously get passports for our new baby and our 2 year old, as they have never had passports before and my hubby needs to renew his but was wondering if we'd need to renew my other childrens passports. They are due to expire next March and I imagine we'll have submitted our visa before then but will we need to have their new passports before we send in any application so that the new passports go on the application. Sorry feeling a bit thick tonight.

Also will all our children need medicals and police checks? Even the 4 month old and 2 year old????:err:

Cheers in advance,

Jane

hi jane , im not sure about passports, police checks are done on every one 16yrs and over,

i know someone who has a two yr old and they had a simple medical, they do ask if noculations are up to date, and that everything at birth was normal, xrays are done on 11 or 12 yrs and over, (my son had just turned 12 but my 10yr old didnt have to) hope this is some help:)

Hi,

I seem to remember that you need 2 years remaining on the passports at the time of application, I think this is just a reccomendation though, if you need to renew passports after the application has started or after visas are issued but before travel it will slow things down.

Hi Jane

Our two year old had his medical done in December - his chest was sounded , weight, height (wouldn't stand on the scales nor under the height measure!) and reflexs checked - nothing invasive

You definately need 2 years on your passports but if the passports haven't expired yet they will add up to 9 months onto the expiry date of the new passports. They do for adults so hopefully kids will be the same. I had 6 months on my passport when we applied and my new passport expires 10 years 6 months after it was issued.

No such thing as a stupid question. This might be a stupid answer though.:D

I was under the impression that if your passport expires before you arrive in Australia so long as you have your old passport and your new one on arrival there would be no problem. That said I would renew them before applying for the visa just to be safe.

Thanks everyone - have just been on passport website and filled in forms online so should get those in a few days. Hubby also meeds to renew his so with all the kids and him it's gonna ccost a bomb!!!! Ah well, I reckon this is going to be the shape of things to come.

Also when we have medicals, waaaay down the line, do they do blood tests on the older children, oldest 10 - don't know how I'll break the news to them that they have to have blood tests, lol.

We know how you feel as for cost as I was the only one that didn't need a new passport.

Tracey's had expired and Jack(7), Sophie(5), Niamh(2) and 7 month Joe all needed one.

Hi Jane

When we lodged our application last yeat I had 14months left on my passport in my maiden name, I only renewed it last month and all we had to do was fill in a “Change of Circumstances” form 1022

All children need a medical, x-rays are only required if over 11 yrs and blood tests and police checks for all over 16yrs
