A few days in Melbourne first........is there anything we can do while there?

Recommended Posts

Hi

We leave the UK on Sunday 26th August and arrive in Melbourne on the 28th August, continuing our journey to Adelaid......I mean home on the 1st September. The reason for the stopover is we wanted to spend a few days with Craig's sister (Midwife in Melbourne) before the madness starts. We will have some time to kill while there though so is there anything we can do in Melbourne that will help us? For example, could we apply for tax codes, medicare or sort out new mobiles etc? We have opened a NAB account and have already been contacted by someone from the Adelaide branch about making an appointment when we get there, but could we at least "fully" open the account in Melbourne? I know a lot of things will have to wait until we get to Adelaide but if we could do anything to help ourselves and tick a couple of things off the "to do" list then all the better.

Any advice as always is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Kathleen

In two days i would just take in the sites, relax.

Go to the Skydeck, Level 88. Great views across the city especially if you get a clear day.

Better still go a night as well

Then, if your really up for it, do THE EDGE.

You walk out over a glass floor and look straight down, bit freaky at first but worth the visit.

A walk along the Southbank is nice too.

Been to Melbourne a three times in the last year (work & pleasure) but am sure Craig's sister will know of a fair few places to visit.

Good Luck and enjoy your flight, c u when you get here

Go to the Crown Casino too, well worth a visit especially the mall bit you can walk through and if you LOVE cake. My Wife would probably kill me for posting a picture.DSCF0988.jpg

These are the cake counters and views from the Sky Tower. Couldn't attach the one of Liz like a kid in a sweet shop choosing cake :)

So much to do and see in Melbourne! I agree, take it easy relax enjoy the Queen Victoris Markets or Lygon Street (if you love food), or China town or just ride the free tram circuit where you will end up with great bargains on things you 'need' :cute: or visit Lygon Street (if you love food), or China town or just ride the free tram circuit and see the sights.

It's a beautiful place that my husband and I have been to 4 times now driving the 8 hours with the 3 kids in the back seat. Well worth it! Leave the Medicare, tax file number etc till you get here so you have an address etc.

Hope the move to Adelaide goes well!

Make sure 'if' you have extra baggage allowance being a first time migrant that its included in your flights up to Adelaide.

You will get stung with a heavy bill for all the extra kilos on the flight.

Quite a few people have not checked this and been caught out at the airport.

Like the others have said just enjoy Melbourne it might be a while till you can get time for a break.

Hi Barney, those were taken when we were on honeymoon in July 09. The cake stands look good, but Liz could have spent all night looking at the counter. I dread to think what Liz and our Daughter will be like in a few years stood there.

We've booked the extra baggage allowance from Perth to Adelaide when we go on the JetStar flight. Bloomin expensive flight for 3 of us.
