Hi were coming over next week for 6 days to activate our visa, we have so much to do in that time. Someone said to get a 3g dongle as we can take our laptop round with us as we have lots of research to do in a small amount of time. Are the dongles prepaid? are they easy to set up? Where can we get a 3g dongle and a pay as you go sim card from we are staying in torresnville? Thanks for all your help... I have done a search but couldnt find the info

We got one from Crazy Johns bought it in Sydney on route to Adelaide. Worked fine in both places. It was essentially a vodaphone one I think but much cheaper than the branded one.

You can check coverage for your chosen one easily on line. Some areas are not brilliant in SA.

I would check it all out on line before going. We did and it saved lots of time, we even got directions to the nearest store sorted.

I have a 3G dongle and a mini wifi thingy, that lets you use 5 items off a 3G sim. You would need to charge it but you are more than welcome to borrow one while you are here, it's cheaper than buying a dongle for 6 days.

Crazy Johns are now closed unfortunately. Google for rates and decide which one you want before you arrive so you don't waste time looking around. You can pick up a prepaid dongle at any of the places mentioned.

That's not completely true, I use Vodafone and Optus, and don't have real issues. If you go in the country service is far superior with Telstra. My advice, us save the money and avoid Telstra, for your needs any provider will be fine.

I tend to agree - I have used the Vodafone one and there is no trouble with it at all. I've also used the Virgin one and IMO the Vodafone one works better in Adelaide. Telstra is more expensive but has better coverage in the regional areas.

We were at the casino last night in the CBD so I thought I'd take the opportunity to compare my Optus network with my gfs Telstra.

Optus

Telstra

And yet they both worked. This is not about what is better but what is better value for money for a 6 day leisure trip, as in not needed for large work data to be transmitted.

Would you suggest they hire a BMW instead of a Toyota, because it's better but twice the price?

That would be the device (phone, laptop etc), as you have connected to Optus with good coverage :-)

I am not going to argue with you, but if your GF doesn't like Optus as it's no good, she can move away.

I use Optus in my iPad for GPS and haven't had any issues travelling round Adelaide and the suburbs.

Have a good day.

If you want it to work reliably id get Telstra and stay well clear of Optus and Vodafone.

Agree tried Vodafone, then optus and ended up with telstra to get any meaningful speed before we had a permanent rental!
