Benefits of gaining permanent residency??

Hi all, got residency today, which is good!

 

Dont know to much about the benefits. Can I cancel the private health cover I had arranged for being on a 457?

 

are there any benefits of gaining residency?

Yes you can cancel it.

You have three months to get an SA driving licence instead of your uk one.

You can get your full Medicare card (pretty much the same as the reciprocal one except people don't get confused by it).

 

The main benefit is not having the worry that you might loose your job and visa.

Not if sure if you can already on a 457, but as a PR for sure, if you have dependents you may be able to claim family assistance from Centrelink.
