Hi all

I have been granted a 457 visa..what are:

1.the pro and cons of this visa

2.Also when you want to apply for permanent residency it says you need to be in full time employment for 12 months and stay in area for 2 years.

Do you have to be employed in the same field that you applied for the visa ( Your skills that you was assesed) or can you do any job

3.Do kids have to pay international school fees

4. IF wife works for 12 months can this satisfy the visa condition for 12 months employment for permanent visa application

Numerous, but generally Pro the 457 is generally quicker to obtain, Cons it is temporary if you are looking at permanent residence in the long term and changes can occur

I am not sure where you are getting the 12 months requirement from - I think you may be referring to a visa other than the 457?

Whilst on a 457 you can apply for permanent residence at any time you do not need to wait. To apply for a permanent resident the primary applicant - and that could be yourself or your wife - you need to meet the requirements of the permanent visa you apply for.

Sounds like you're mixing the requirements of the 457 with the (no longer available) 475. The 475 had similar features to the 489 which your timeline suggests you applied for, although not what you've apparently been granted ...

so you're saying that at two weeks in and on a 457 we could apply for PR now?

Yes. If you can pass the skills assessment and have enough points you can apply at any time. If you don't have enough points but do have a positive skills assessment you can apply for employer sponsored pr now.

Hi this is from the immi website....

Pathway to permanent residence

When a Skilled – Regional Sponsored (provisional) visa holder has held their visa for at least two years they can apply for the permanent Skilled - Regional (subclass 887) visa provided they have lived for two years and worked full time for at least one year in a specified regional area in Australia.

Skilled – Regional Sponsored visa holders also have the option of applying for a permanent visa with the support of a regional employer in regional Australia at any time.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean?
