Hi all and a happy new year,

My wife and I are going through the visa process at the moment and I wonder if anyone could tell me if you are allowed to purchase a house on a 489 visa, I know this sounds a little mad but it just seems more like sense to buy without really having to borrow opposed to renting for 400 dollars a week and what is the length of time you would normally wait going from a 489 to PR visa providing you have kept your nose clean and all in good health.

Thank you all.

Hi,

You can, in theory, you have to get permision from the foreign investment board, i'm not sure if it is commonally done or not, the only person i know got permision to buy a house in joint names with her citizen husband, i'm sure someone on here will know more about it, here is their page tho :)
