Task on First Entry

Hi,

Can I ask what we must do in the first entry? Is there any specific task like informing the Immigration that we are there?

I understand from my friend he was given a label to stick on to his passport. However, AU Gov have done electronic, do we still need that?

Anyone gone SA recently can share?

Thank you.

Nope, nothing special. It's all electronically linked. They can see the visa info when they scan your passport. They may ask you to step over to the desk so they can compare your pic on screen to you and your passport but that is about all. They have info in the system and know you are there ;) Then they put a stamp in your passport. Make sure you get an entry date stamp.

If you want to pay for a visa label that is up to you.

When I did ours you just wrote a letter asking for a visa label and included your passport and a self addressed special delivery envelope inside to the embassy and then within a week we had it back with a label. Maybe check with the embassy to see what the process is now if it's changed.

ours was already electronic but having the label has been useful so that employers can see the visa details.

The label is $70. If you wish, you can arrange to have the visas stamped into your passports. To do this, forward a copy of the visa grant letter and all your passports, by Special Delivery, together with a stamped self-addressed Special Delivery envelope for their return, to the Australian High Commission in London, whose address is...

Alternatively just wait in the line at arrivals instead of going through the electronic machines & have your passport stamped, which can be used to prove date of arrival.

In addition, if you have a permanent visa & are making 1st entry but not staying & you have any friends or relatives, make use of the extended luggage allowance that is grated & take extra stuff to leave there.

Hope that helps, Mandi x

The migrant baggage allowance is only offered by a few airlines now. Or if migrating and using IOM. Not sure return flights qualify with IOM.
