Visa 173/143

You must apply for the 143 before the 173 expires, you can apply in Australia. You will then be granted a bridging visa to cover any time between the 143 expiry and the grant of the 173.

the bridging visa will only be granted if you make a valid application in time.

Hi. I thought I had replied to this but it doesn't seem to have taken!

yes I meant when the 173 expires.

you don't actually apply for a bridging visa. If you are in Australia and apply for a visa a bridging visa is automatically awarded, it will then kick in if the processing for the new visa runs beyond the expiry of the current visa. It means you can legally stay in Australia on the terms of your current visa until a decision is made on the 143.

And ... the Parent Visa Centre is moving quickly to finalise 143 visa applications lodged by 173 visaholders.

As a guide we lodged a 143 application for a 173 visaholding client at the PVC on the 30th of June, 2014.

On the 3rd of July (the same week) a letter was issued requesting the Assurance of Support and AFP certificates for the applicants.

Best regards.

Hi Alan

That is one hell of a change from the info included in their recent auto reply emails which quote an 8 month wait for a173 to 143 application to be allocated a CO

Lets hope the speed up in processing is reflected in the time of CO assignments for 143 applicants also

cheers

It is of course quite possible that all 143 visa applicants holding 173 visas are simply being asked for these documents at a lower level of officer, and that the application will then await allocation of a case officer for a few months ... so maybe I ought to inject a note of caution into expectations of overly quick visa grants.

Best regards.
