TRA Declinned

Has anybody been through the appeal process regarding the TRA application.

 

We have just heard my OT's has been declinned (electrican special class) awaiting for our agent to speak with them to find out full info so we can appeal but the letter mentions not enough detail regarding his apprentiship with his old employer.

 

We submitted 5 pages and qualifications which considering this was undertaken years ago and for a massive company I was really please with myself regarding the amount of info i manage to get from them. We also submitted our info regarding the work he did in great detail.

 

Our agent has said he has never had an appeal turned down but now im getting worried.

HI Andi,

 

Listen to your agent. You pay them for just this scenario. Your agent knows if it is worth appealing or not. It does sound as though its just the TRA being a bit pickie.

 

Trust your agent and let them earn their money.

 

That said fingers crossed for you. Keep us updated.

Hi Andi , I had to go through the tra process ?, It takes ages and like you i sent loads of info. Your agent should be able to tell you exactly what thay want . Mine gave me a list , on the list was 12 things ,I had to be able to do 9 of them .Iam a sheetmetal worker ,one thing on the list was copper dressing ? who the fxxk Does that this day and age? So i know it is annoying but keep going send them pictures of where you work if you can and any drawings ? Like Django said get your agent to sort it out ?. Again don't give up ATB Paul

Stick with it am sure your agent will see you right anyhow you have to we want some more west yorkshire folk out there by the time we get there.

Will get on to my agent once he has received info about what they want. To be honest my agent gave me tips and then a copy of somebody elses TRA reference and form although they werent exactly the same job as us. He did check it over though and thought it should suffice. Will get on his case as already paid him over £2k.

Hi,

All we can say is the TRA side of things seemed to be the worst part, so hopefully once through that things will move more smoothly for you.

I had been out of my trade for 19 years and this caused us to need loads of paperwork not only due to the time out of the job but also because the company no longer existed.

I had to write a stat dec and also get references from old work collegeus and even had to include their original apprenticship certificates to prove they had worked with me and had witnessed my work! Fortunaltly I was able to provide this!

 

Good luck with it all and don't be to down hearted, I'm sure it will be sorted. See you in Oz.

My oh applied as electrician special class but was rejected in this catagory and given general electrician status. He says the agent asked him to show a trainning progresiion from walking through the door not knowing arse from elbow as a kid to being able to do the job ie working with a spark wiring electrical control cabinets, then spending time in a drawing office learning the engineering princoples, then electrical installation and finally testing panels and working independantly. I had a lot of references itemisimg my daily work over the past 10 years and from people who were supervisors were he served his time. My husband didnt have anything to say he had served his time just his references and his written description of the training he had had showing a learning process and progression. This was under the old system. He thinks you were bloody unlucky. Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about the bounce, I'm applying for the same Special class cert, I've spent the last 2 months just chasing employers for proof of employment and job descriptions, i also have written out 4 pages of what I do day to day, including what i did and what tools I used::

 

I went to the control panel and using a medium sized phillips screwdiver removed the retaining bolts....

 

I tested the input voltage to the mother board using a fluke A731 multilmeter, putting the positive lead on the red coloured power input and the negative black lead on a confirmed earth from the supply which was green and yellow.....

 

 

seriously I did 3 jobs from each of my last 3 employers and 3 from my apprenticeship days, it took ages and wound me up like a spring but I kept going, it is a bit sad but if you want a different type of visa or chang occupation class ie to general electrician it's not so tough, it seems that the more complicated your job the harder it is for you to apply for it.

even if like me your on the MODL list!!! BAH HUMBUG!!!

I'd be sticking a rocket up the agent's backside if I were you! Richie had to go through the TRA and our agent flatly refused to send it off until she was 100% sure it would go through without a hitch. Poor hubby must have re-written his submission about 10 times and sure enough, once it was finally sent off it was approved straight away. Good luck with your appeal, at least your agent sounds pretty confident about winning it. Just another hurdle in the race to Oz!

Definitely appeal & speak to the employer whom his apprenticeship was with, its likely that you just need a 'bit more' evidence to support the appeal but your agent will know exactly what is required. You pay a lot of money so make sure you get them to sort it.

Gosh- this post is really making me anxious!!!!!!! We are just about to submit our TRA and i'm not sure we have enough detail in our references! We have one from everyone required, just not sure they are good enough now. But short of writing them yourself and getting them to sign them- what can you do!!! Are they as stringent for all trades or is it more so for specialised ones? Panic, panic!!!!! Yvonne xx

You can't ever put to much information down, and if you have to write the reference and get them to sign them, then thats OK at least it will say exactly what you need it to.

We think the TRA part was the hardest part of the whole thing and it is crucial you get it correct, without it you can't progress.

The advice I keep hearing on TRAs is to write everything down as though you are talking to a 4 year old. Go into everything and as Martin says you cannot give too much info. The TRA will be the hardest part of the whole process for you and the most hassle. Get over this hurdle and its all down hill. Good luck to everyone at this stage it will be worth it all in the end.

We've just submitted our vetasses - I did all the references myself and got the employers to sign them to make sure everything was in. OH a chippie so had to put down in detail all jobs he did from laying new floor, building a porch etc - explaining in detail how each job is done. Then we also had to put down what tools he uses and exactly what job he uses them for and how they are used!! Each reference was at least 2 pages long by the time I'd finished - no wonder it took me weeks to sort out:swoon:

Ok I trained first an an electrical/electronic engineer, then i went an did electrical/mechanical engineering broadbase training (from domestic electrics to robotics and fault finding on micro circuitry) and went into research and design, then I did a CCNA and after that i went and got my electricians liscence (16th ed and the like) so from the first bit of training to the last I have done Standard electrical stuff - domestic-dis boards, light's, ring mains blah blah, and am a qualified electrician (until they moved the goal posts last year and said I need a new part "P" to sign the stuff off, great money making venture by the govn't there!), but I have the qualifications to satisfy IENG, with the experience, to go to OZ I want to go as a special class electrician, firstly beacuse it's where I have the most exerience, working/fault finding on complex machinery that involves electrics and mechanics but I have worked as an electrical engineer also, I don't call myself a special class electrician, it's the Ozzie equivalent of what I do here and what I want my trade to be recognised as, if your still confused as to what i should call myself then that's two of us!!! I'd also rather not still be crawling in peoples lofts and house bashing in 40 degree temperatures, thus my electrician status is merely a backup if like some unfortunates here it falls on it's arse.

If you don't know what you are how do you expect to convince TRA.

I had a sparky mate look at your post and he said by the sounds of it you will only get in with a restricted licence, until you sit for your exams for special class which involves, instrumentation, extensive PLC work, electrical mechanics and electrical fitting also a HV ticket would help too.

Hiya, I was just wondering what other information and paperwork you had to send to Vetasses. OH is also a joiner but we are not looking to apply until late next year. Even so I still find myself thinking about all the paperwork and evidence etc, etc, that needs to be sent (head feels like its going to explode ). I can imagine this will be the hardest part along with selling the house. Are you doing it all yourself or do you have an agent? Hope all goes well with vetasses, let us know how it goes.

I would also be interested in the information required by VETASSESS, my hubby is a bricklayer. We have just sent off our initial payment to our agent (recommended by some people on this site, thanks for that) and so our next stage will be collecting and submitting information for them. Andrew has been self employed for about 10 years now, so everything will be statements from companies he has sub-contracted for, which I can see now is going to be a nightmare! Agent has said that if all goes well and he passess his skills test it could all be completed in a couple of months, but I am not holding my breath after reading posts!

Yeah, I was in research and design for 7 years (instrumentation, PLc's and electro/mech) so not worried about that, prob is getting all the work details from the employers it takes ages and they don't have any obligation to send it to you, this is the wall i'm currently banging my head against!!
