Alternative English Tests

The DIBP have announced how the scores for the new English tests (due to be accepted sometime in November, date still to be announced) will be benchmarked against IELTS. I have provided a comparison of the scores in a table on my website along with a list of visas for which these tests can be used (NB does not yet include SC457).

Is this to replace ielts or run along side it?

Once open they will provide an alternative test to the IELTS. The tests have different formats which may suit some people.

Just curious, but is this a new thing where native English speakers have take an English language test..?

I never had to take one when I applied, 10 years ago.

They don't have to take the English test, but it gives more points, and most people need the extra points.
