I'm planning to migrate to Adelaide in 2009. I heard it's not easy and costly to import wooden furniture/antique to Adelaide. Is there anyone can share his experience? I really want to bring those old furniture with me cos they are part of the wealth remained by my grand grand parents.

Hi

We have had 2 companies to give us quotes for shipping so far. Both have said that we are fine to take our 4-5 items of antique furniture. They are strict re: no wicker etc but treated wood seems to be fine. They didn't quote us any different prices for them, just the same as the other items, but you decide on the amount of money that you want to insure them for and pay a percentage on top of the rate for the container.

Hope that helps

I had some furniture and antiques shipped out a few years ago.

They were very precious to me indeed.

We had them professionally packed by a specialist company in Leeds.

Quarantine will be looking for infestation of boring insects.

I was there for the quarantine examination and keenly observed their inspection.

They did comment how well packed it was. They carefully opened the cases, shone a torch in to look for any dust from borers.

Passed with flying colours.:)

Hello

We bought all our furniture with us, including some wooden things, like a antique china stand.

I was told not to bring rattan or cane furniture by people, but the removal people said worst case, customs would fumigate it and charge me for doing it, or remove it.

So I thought I would risk it and I bought over 2 rattan sofas and a coffee table, and they were not fumigated and they are sitting in my family room now, no problem. I think it depends on who you use.
