Hi,

Sorry to say that I have got nothing to report as yet. :embarrassed:

The PA told me today that Don Farrell is still in Canberra but will be back next week. They have discussed the issues briefly, but have promised to discuss in depth this week, look at the evidence and let me know by Friday. I have also contacted Chris Evans, the MP for Immigration by email and will be calling his office on Monday to discuss the same issues. I will keep you informed of any progress, positive or negative and I am still collecting evidence as we go along.

Hi Cazzie,

I was just checking up on what has been going on with your campaign....I've been on the phone with different departments today asking why they charge "almost international" fees for courses at Tafe when we are residents for tax purposes and don't have to pay international fees for children going to school in SA. I'm considering taking this issue to our MP as advised to by the guy in Marketing and International dept of Tafe SA....it's unfair Keep us up to date xx Fiona

Hello Fiona and Stuart,

I have recently had a letter from Julie Bishop about the international fees - as you know I have had to pay a fortune to attend university, despite being married to an Aussie - she says that they have no plans to change anything there yet, but that my letter will be put forward at the next meeting (not anytime soon I shouldn't think - but they review these things yearly), so who knows?

As for all of the other issues, I am still waiting to hear from Chris Evans who I have emailed twice and written to, but as yet no response. i have called but the number on the website is no longer valid. So still waiting and compling the evidence ...

I wonder why you are classed as international for Tafe but not for school? It seems like the Aussies have their own loopholes to suit. Good luck if you do decide to take things further and please let me know how you get on.

Take care,

Cazzie x

It's probably because most migrants have children of school age and there has been a backlash of complaints at some point....probably not enough migrants complaining about this!!!!! We'll see Take care Fiona xx

Hi,

I have just managed to have a conversation with Chris Evans' PA - at last. They have formulated a reponse and will be forwarding that to Don Farrell (as he sent the information onto CE) by the end of the week, so hopefully sometime next week, I will get a reply. As soon as I do, I will post the response on PIA.

Cheers, Cazzie
