Hi all, has any one used a company called Four Corners and if so what are they like?

We keep being told that hubby needs his skills assesed but cant get them done, Four Corners say not to worry we can sort it.

What skills? and why can't they be assessed?

You have to have your skills assessed prior to your visa application (not sure if thats a fact, but its pointless paying for an application if you fail your skills assessment), depending on the type of skills depends on the assessment body used.

Hi Barry He is a vehicle paint sprayer, done the trade for 20 yrs and classed as time served qualified but was told needed on paper so just completed and passed level 3 NVQ paint refinishing.

Now been told he must do 900 hrs at college or 4 yrs apprentisip along side of qualification.

He asked college, no go and now told by other companies that unless he meets this criteria he cant get assesed and we cant go.

Not sure, but i thought the 20 years would count for something! for example on my assessment (IT) the fact that i had spent 12 years as a programmer was equivelant to a degree level qualification.

 

Are they saying that this does not apply to him ?

Yes they say to meet criteria is 4yrs or 900 hrs, its TRA he has spoken to them and the only way to do it is go to aus and get a AQF level 3 which is the qualification in Aus, but this company 4 corners recon that he only has to proove an informal apprentiship and that he had done so for at least 5 yrs, this is ok because his first boss took him on as an improover and taught him the trade, however the other companies we have spoken to say NO, not good enough, this is why we are trying to get feed back on Four Corners cos how can they do it but other companies say NO

Ahh, now i see where the dilema is!

 

how many other companies have you spoken to? have you suggested to them the same thing that Four Corners is sugesting regarding the aprenticeship?

 

Unfortunately I have no experience with Four Corners.

 

I had one company tell me I could not get a 175 visa, and another which said I could.. I went with the one that said I could get it, as they were a specialist in IT assessments.

 

What about emailing the TRA??

Hi..

I've got no experience with 4 corners either.....

I would recommend phoning a few migration agents up.. if they think you'll apply through them.. they'll give you loads of information.. then you can make your own mind up.

 

At least they might be able to give you some advice on the skills assessment.

 

Like Barry, my other half had to get his skills assessed. He's a project manager, so we used Vetassess.

Hi yes we have spoken to the TRA they are the ones who said he would have to go over, the other companies say no and 4 Corners may just be after our money, we have met with the guy from 4 Corners and he and the company seem genuine BUT why does all the others say no but this guy say's yes? the man from 4 corners he say yes ha ha, he says if we can proove an informal apprentiship and the fact hubby now has his qualls and the experiance we can put the case to TRA and there will be no problem in getting the assesment without going over, I dont know alot of money if not, we shall see, thanks for your input will keep you posted.

I don't see what the problem is with his informal apprenticeship.

I have been assessed as a general electrician by tra and I have not done a formal apprenticeship. I got a letter from my employer stating it was an informal apprenticeship, what my training consisted of (must be very detailed), how long it was for, and the formal qualifications I gained through college (various city&guilds level3 courses). I also included my work history relevent to my trade and when my employer considered me trained. I did this just before vetasses came in - beat the deadline by a week! I am now the proud holder of a 175 visa.

My advice would be the same as Lisajonesy, phone around and see who can help. We used the Emmigration Group and would recommend them.

ps. - unless you have a job to go to, you will need a positive skills assessment.

GrandJac used Four Corners from memory and rated them highly as far as i know. Maybe drop them a line about their experiences with them
