Hi, this is our first post but we have been getting lots of info from this site for months, thanks! We are in the process of applying for our 175 visa, we had the medicals on Friday so not sure how much longer its going to take, think we still need a case officer. We hope to make it to Adelaide by November so fingers crossed.

I am a nurse working on a surgical ward at the moment, I've got about 18 months experience so far, does anyone know the best way to get a job? I contacted an agency but they are not interested in putting me forward until we have the visa. Is there work for nurses in Adelaide at the moment? I want to work on a ward, would prefer surgical but am happy to do medical.... whatever just want a job!!! Any info would be great, we are thinking about Hallett Cove as a base it looks much nicer than Manchester.....

Thanks

Hi, in answer to your post, YES!!! There are many nursing jobs available to you. My opinion is dont look at agencies, purely cause you dont need to. Have a look at Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders Private, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Ashford Private. The Royal Adelaide would prob be too far for you.

Theres something to be going on with.

There are loads of jobs around, best thing to do is what I did and email the HR department of all the hospitals with a covering email and attach your CV. I did this and got a job.

Hi,

Thanks for that you have given me some peace of mind ! Will be sending that CV out soonish then :jiggy:We live in Northern Moor, Wythenshawe near the Hospital so Australia is going to be different... and better... no offence Wythenshawe ! Its all very exciting and stressful but you have made me feel more confident about working which is great. Think I will give the agencies a miss. We are just looking at removal firms and pet transporters now, our house has an offer on it, everything has started to move in the last 2 weeks .... thanks again will probably have more questions soon . Byeee Jane.

Hi Jane

I've got a job at flinders medical centre on a medical ward and got this job by emailing human resources at the hospital. Within a few weeks i was having a telephone interview at 4.30am and was then offered a job. I've now got my contract and am going out there on sponsorship, which is hopefully completed soon. So hope to be there by august.

The only down side is annual leave needs to be earned, so for the first year i get NO annual leave, which will be a killer!!! I think this is the same throughout Australia and i don't think its just nursing jobs either, so this is something to bear in mind if you don't already know. Good luck with your search, im sure you will have no problems.

I am a Midwife and we went on a Reccie last Oct. I went to Flinders and the Women and Childrens who were all so welcoming and said a job would never be a problem. The Head of Midwifery in one of them told me she would not be interested in me through an Agency because of the charge they make so I wont be going that way even though they bombard me with e mails and calls! There is no need to be tied to them and a lot of the time its for private work which would not suit me, Penny

I work at the Women and Childrens hospital and yes you have to accrue your annual leave but you do not go a whole year without any you have to work somethinglike 3 months to accrue a week, the same goes for sick leave you get more the longer you work.

Good luck with it all

Hi

I applied for my job online after a really terrible night shift and that was the start of our journey. I work at the RAH and they sponsered us and we have PR. I have been there almost 12 months and loved every minute. I am currently doing a Grad dip in orthopaedics. You could apply online at www.rah.sa.gov.au, good luck

Kristian;)

Hi Woody & Jane

My wife is a nurse and is looking at Flinders for work. We are due out in Oct to Adelaide. I was brought up in Nothern Moor, great memories as a kid, playing football and bike rides around Wyhthenshawe Park. Not the same place now I regret to say. Make the move especially if you have/want kids.

Good luck. PM me if you want/require any advice.

JT.

Hi ! well its going to be expensive but no way can we leave them. Going to use Air pets sounds like they do everything from blood tests to getting them to the quarantine centre. We have got a quote based on the size of the dogs, should only be without them for a month... also seen a few rental places that look like they will be ok with taking dogs.. we shall see xx

Hi, I had job at RAH before i came but ended up living in Hallet Cove, and the travelling is a nightmare. Ihave just got a job a Flinders which is 10 mins away, so much easier. Haven't started yet, but looks ok, although lots of comments from the staff at the RAH....Get the impression they don't like each other. Also Nourlonga hospital is close, but it is only a small hosp.

Good luck with your journey..

Hi Kris,

your posts are always so posotive, which is what I need right now, we are coming to Adelaide in september and as yet I have no job, currently I am a clinical nurse specialist in palliative care in the community, but would do absolutely anything in nursing. Some of the human resources have not responded to my CV and e-mails, staring to feel I may not get a job! any suggestions. stel

Hiya all

I'm a Practice Nurse currently and have been for the past 12 years. I am concerned about getting a job, as i havent had any hospital exeprience in years. I am willing to work in hospital,( am willing to work any where as long as they will pay me), but dont know if they will want me due to my lack of recent experience.

I would like to stay in practice nursing as i really enjoy it, but im not sure that there is alot of oppertunities.

We cant apply for our visa until Oct, so there isnt any rush, but just thinking ahead.

Any advice?

Donna

Hi, we got the visa at the end of July and have sent my C.V out to several hospitals over the last 3 weeks, today I got a mail from one saying that I should contact them on arrival to see if they have anything for me...... so that sounds positive, its the only reply so far ...good luck keep trying, there are loads of agencies that will snap you up on arrival so try not to stress ( Like I am ha ha ) good luck .

Hi,

I applied online direct via the RAH internet site, have you tried doing that as I know they are employing at the moment. My wife has applied for jobs and not heard for weeks then has got a letter in the post, so try not to get to disheartened. Trust me you will get a job no problem as there are lots of nurses jobs in the paper every week.

There is a Govt programme to recruit RNs to work in General Practice.

As for Pall care try Daw Park Hospice south of the city, each region has their own community palliative care team so depending on where you want to live you may be able to find work.

Hope this helps.

Dear Anniewo

thanks for the information, that is really useful, the general practice initiative sounds interesting as I was a district nurse for ten years before palliative care, have you any links or contacts you can suggest?

Many thanks Stella x
