We may want to send about $ 2000 to a relative for a flight, what is the best way ?

an bank transfer ??

Also, as we have run out of 50 and 20 pound notes what is the best for small birthday presents ? is paypal any good for that ?

 

We no longer have a UK bank account..

We do have a HIFX account, but fees for small transfers may not be worth it and I think it has to go to bank account in your own name ?

 

What us everyone elses experience of this please ??

We have always used our credit card to pay for relatives flights from UK and other overseas. But you have to give them the card no. or book over the internet. It is possible to give the no. directly over the phone to a travel agent.

Best Flights or other Aus. travel agents do organise flights from Uk as well, and you can pay them by bank transfer or credit card (for a small fee).

We have always been able to get cash foreign currency from Westpac banks, we have used the one at Edwardstown or the one at Glenelg, and also Bank SA at Glenelg. The charge is minimal if you get a few hundred at a time.

It is expensive to transfer money through the banks to another account in UK and even worse from UK to SA.

We want to send someone one fare price of a 2 fare booking, ie my partners daughters father inlaw he is paying for 2 fares and we are paying him the other, about $ 1500 to 2000 ish

 

Also for neices and nephews etc we usually sent 20/30 pounds , now we have no sterling perhaps buying gift vouchers via M & s or paypal would work, what have others done for both senarios please ??

I am new here, great forum. Thought I would share this with you. I may have put it in the wrong place. Sorry if I have. I am new to forums.

 

For the past couple of years I have been using the following site to buy gifts in the UK and having them sent directly to my friends and relatives rather than risking the customs duty sending them from Australia.

The retailers are all UK based and most will gift wrap them for you. If they won't then I have been sending them to a friend who wrapped them and passed them on to my family for me.

 

It also saved me having to search all over the net for good retailers in the UK as there are some top names here like Currys, Appliances Direct, Borders, Cadbury, Halfords, IWOOT, Toys R Us. That's just a few.

I'm Australian, married to a Brit and living in Kenya. The best way we have found to send money from our British bank account to our Australian bank account is by cheque. It only costs us $10 to bank the cheque and the British bank doesn't charge us. The only down side is that it takes a month to clear. Not sure what the charges would be going the other way.
