Self Employed getting a mortage?

Hi there. We have sold our house in the UK, but will need to get a mortgage in order to buy a house here...perhaps borrowing $120k on a $420k house.

My husband is self employed and we have been told that we won't get a mortgage for 2 years due to his employment status.

Has anyone had any experience of getting a mortgage in these circumstances? We're hoping for some discretion due to the large deposit we'd be putting down.

2 years of rent money seems such a waste!

Hope someone has had some better news from the banks!

Thanks,

Lucky

Hi there,

We also had a large-ish deposit; ANZ do a lo-doc offset mortgage for those wanting less than 60% of the value of the house - we actually got approval before either of us even got a job and no proof of income was required, although once we were working we got the details over to them. Your situation should be similar, I guess. It may also have helped that we still had some money left in the bank after paying our deposit so that we could easily cover a number of months of mortgage repayment.

Sharon.
