Living Away From Home Allowance

Hiya

 

I'm sure that this has been answered somewhere, but I can't find it. Can someone give me the link??

 

I need to find out about this allowance. Does it only apply when you're employed? Is it paid in a lump sum, or off-set against your tax??

 

Hope someone can help because I'm getting conflicting advice from people.

It is through the employer but not all employers will offer it.
