Hi everyone,

We're emigrating next year, approx 1st May... can't wait! :jiggy:

We're just starting to think about our finances and probably like a lot of people who do this kind of thing, we're confused! :err:

I came across this website Prism Xpat | Pension & Finance Specialists for UK Emigrants, who claim to help you increase your wealth by up to 50% when emigrating?! Does anyone have any experience of this company, if so, are they worth contacting?

Hi Ali,

More Yorkshire migrants! Will there be any Yorkshire folk left soon?! (My OH is from Batley, West Yorkshire!).

I have always erred on the side of caution with financial matters. I do not have any knowledge of this company but there are plenty of schemes that cause plenty of heartache and financial loss. You may look at factors like the strength of the Oz Dollar, drop in UK property values and the need to establish a new life over here with all the financial implications attached...and then be influenced by something that looks like a good deal.

Take care.

Tamara

Hi

It can certainly be beneficial to take financial advice regarding UK assets such as pensions, investments etc etc.

I have looked at the link but cannot see the part regarding the 50% increase to wealth, however I would imagine that it would be along the lines of higher rate tax payers making a personal contribution to their uk personal pension scheme and receiving tax relief.

They would receive 20% at source ie pay 80GBP in a receive 100GBP as a gross payment and then claim a further 20% at the end of the tax year. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/relief-pension.htm#1

Of course it sounds good in theory but 2 major disadvantages here. Firstly the money would be tied up until retirement and secondly in my experience most people migrating have not got surplus monies at the time to be able to make addiditonal pension contributions.

I would suggest that the line is being used as a hook for people to take notice of them so that they can win your business in other areas ie pension transfers life insurance etc.

p.s I have heard of prism expat, they are affiliated with a lot of migration companies and they are certainly not bogus, however I believe that for the most part there is nothing that cannot be dealt with in Australia regarding financial affairs.

I agree Tamara, we have been here almost 2 years and still have our pensions in the UK. Its just not worth it at the minute tho bring them over, we would about lose all of my pension earnings in the transfer rates! :-( Think seriously about it before you commit, cos its an awful lot of money and heartache if you get fleeced!
