We have opened an accout with Westpac online and got acount numbers next day and have rejistered for online and phone banking. Really simple. We have also transfered some money over via HIFX and it went smoothly and was in the account 3 days later. We can pay money in but will have to go to a central Adelaide branch when we arrive with passports before we can make a withdrawal and to collect our cards.

Would recomend them from what we have seen so far.

It's all good that it's done very quick but it would be nice to have access in some way to reassure us that our money is in the correct account and not somewhere else. I understand that we can't draw money out until we get but I want is to get a statement from NAB that our money has reach the account. Is it possible?
Is there a reason you want to slowly build up money in Oz..? You could just squirell it in the UK until you get over here - or just before you leave - and use a money transfer like HiFX etc..... The bigger the amount the better deal you get (broadly).

I might be wrong, but with fees etc are you not going to lose money sending it little by little?

We used HiFX and it was fine - do the order and get a date it will be transferred across - you get a deadline by which time you need to have paid them with your UK funds.

Back to your question.... You could register for NAB internet banking, but they use mobile phones for security (you register a Oz number) which texts you a code everytime you want to do something new etc.... Dunno how that would work with a UK number.

I would very much consider doing it last minute, put yer money in a high interest UK account for now.

      Hello,
Thanks for the reply. The reason we are putting money aside slowly is, as we are not selling our property here only our vehicle and some furniture whatever we get it for it just want to put the money in before we end up spending it here. The rate at the moment is up and down so I just the convenience of being able to transfer the money without worry of sending it to someone else. I have tried internet banking by the way but unfortunately ask for Oz mobile number which I don't have. The main concern I have is that I don't confirmation from NAB or bank statement to say the funds has reach my account. I did try to e-mail them if they can assist me in this matter but so far no reply. If they can't deliver a good customer service then I don't think it's the right bank for me.
