Hello! We are desperately looking for a trustworthy, knowledgeable on UK and Oz and reasonably priced financial advisor based in the London/ Essex area in the UK to help us with pensions and money transfer to Australia as its a bit of a minefield and we need to do it right! Does anyone have any recommendations for anyone they have used in the UK? We'd like someone tried and tested!! Many thanks for your help! X

Hi Josie

I am a qualified UK and Australian Financial Adviser and am licensed and practice here in Adelaide, we specialise in providing financial advice to UK expats, predominantly providing UK Pension Transfer advice.

I will be able to assist you in relation to your UK Pensions and help you understand whether transferring these to Australia will be in your interests, however there is no rush to embark on this process and I always advise clients to wait until they feel settled in Australia and it is their intention to remain before considering a transfer. A transfer is a one way street and once transferred they cannot be transferred back if you decide Australia is not for you.

Can I ask what visa type you will be coming over on i.e perm or temp?

In relation to money transfers, you do not need financial advice in relation to this, there are a number of options available but generally using a foreign exchange company is more favourable. Companies such as Moneycorp, HiFX and OzForex should be considered although Moneycorp are a sponsor of Poms in Adelaide and can offer fee incentives to members for using them.

Regards

Andy

Hi

Nothing scheduled in at present, although there will be a Poms In Oz Chat Session scheduled for the end of August that I will be taking part in (I have a chat room specifically covering the topic) however this is primarily aimed at people still in the UK as it takes place UK evening time which means silly O'clock Adelaide time, lol!

Alternatively, if you are quite keen to look at a transfer then I offer a complimentary appointment here in Adelaide for clients and can then run through the process and how we operate and charge etc.

If you would like to arrange an appointment then please feel free to PM or email me on andrew@vistafs.com.au

Regards

Andy

Thanks for your advice Andrew! We have 176 PR visas. I think we are going to leave our pensions over here until we are sure of the future. We were wanting to move most of our funds over to Oz but wanted to leave a security blanket of money over here in the UK. I was told that if we wanted to move this over to Oz at a later date we would be heavily taxed on it but there was apparently a way around this. Is this true? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi JosieThere may be some instances whereby foreign exchnage gains are taxed however generally domestic monies (example monies from the sale of a private residence etc) have an exemption. You should seek tax advice on this for your own situation. However, even if there was a tax charge it would only be on the forex gain not on the entire amount.
