UK block on overseas spouse pensions

I must admit to being pretty ignorant on pensions/super etc. I find it so boring and really must make the effort to understand it all.

I can see the justification for introducing this but there are flaws. My parents are both British born. My father moved around the world in the Royal navy and paid national insurance contributions but my mother would not get a pension as a navy wife if she outlived him and the claim was after 2016.
