Cost so far

It's getting close to our fly date and yet at this late time the wife is getting cold feet which in turn is making me uneasy. One thing which has come up is the cost of everything just to get over there, apart from the £6k it's costing to move every thing over, there is the flight tickets but to get our dog over is starting to cost more than it is to fly the four of us.:arghh:

Does any one mind saying how much it cost them in total to get you and your family over to Adelaide!

Roughly I figure from the time we started to the time we get there with all our stuff, it must be getting close to £15k if not more:shocked:

Thanks:)

It is an expensive decision and the costs continue for awhile once you arrive but it is well worth it.

Our dog's flight cost more than our 3 tickets but it allows you to keep some form of normality and familiarity.

Dare not even go into the costs involved because if you think about it too much it may cause a heart attack! It is not only the physical cost of the visa, meds, shipping, flights etc. it is also the loss you have to take on selling your cars, motorbikes, what you send down the tip because you can't take it with you. Best not to think too much about it, hope it will all be worth it!!!

Hmmm,..

Visa cost application Can't remember!

medicals £130 x 4

TRA $300

cerified copies (FREE!)

Rekkie £6000:err: (more like a massive holiday! we are naughty!)

Dog: Vets= £450 + £244.57 shipping + 30x $17.55 quarantine + $280 AQIS import permit.

Shipping £ 4800 20ft container including insurance.

Flights £2951 and 10,000 airmiles for the 4th flight.

travel insurance one way .... Not sure but I think £210

Initial rental $1950 3 weeks furnished 3 bed house

£17,375 plus the $ spent.

Add to that the losses on car, motorbike, quadbike, house sale etc etc

I reckon just over £20,000 total.

You could do it for less and I'm also sure you could spend a whole lot more!

In total I reckon about 11000 GBP.

Flights approx 2k (one way) 2 adults & 2 kids

Dog approx 4K (vets; flights; quarantine; permits; transfer from Melbourne)

20 ft container approx 4K including insurance

Here on a PR spouse visa, so meds; fees etc apply approx 1K

It soon adds up.

We leave on the 2nd Oct, and think all the costs (this side) have now been realised:

Visa - cost footed by sponsoring company

Shipping - £4200 (20ft container)

Dog Shipping - £3200 after all is said and done

Flights - £4500 (but business class one way x 3)

Professional registrations costs - £680 approx for me, £500 approx for partner

Car depreciation - We don't talk about it as it could move us both to tears!

Can't think of anything else, but there will be costs when we arrive such as cars, school for 12 year old son, rental costs (bond and rent in advance that we have already paid), bits and bobs to get by until our container arrives and I would imagine a host of others that we haven't thought about.

I'm of the opinion that migrating is a bit like having children: If you count all of the costs, you just wouldn't bother, but you do it anyway and get by like everyone else! Rather simplistic, but it works for me!
