My daughter did it a few years ago, but her course fees were paid by West Torrens Council as we lived there at the timeand they were advertising for workers in that area. It took about 12 weeks fulltime, I think, and she had no problem getting part- time work after that. Subsequently she did a B. Nursing at Flinders and supported herself right through with weekend and casual shifts.
I believe that there are still places which offer free training, try the local job centre for information.
If you are registered as unemployed, you may get your course fees paid. Otherwise I think it costs around $2000.
