      Dental Insurance

      Hey Guys,

Im considering covering my families dental by insurance has anyone done this?
and if so where why or why not, how much do you pay who with and does it cover orthodontist treatment like braces.
Whats the best thing about it and do you really need it?
So many questions sorry and thank you

Unfortunately you really don't get much for what you put out. My plan, for example, has a $500 benefit towards all dental care, including braces. Most orthodontists will spread payments out over 3 to 5 years so you can get that benefit to stretch (you have to ask the ortho though). Dental insurance is something that comes with your hospital and extras cover.

Mutual Community - Silver Extras Package...

We have this and have found it to work well.....

e.g....my husband has dental work done recently...total cost $200...after insurance he paid $65...

Has some more to come that is going to be nearly $800...after insurance, think he will pay around $300...

yeah, you could argue that by the time you have paid the premiums every month and then what you have to pay towards treatment as well...not worth it...(I used to think that)..but when you take into account all the other treatments it covers....such as physio, chiro, eyes etc...and if you use them all (like we do)...then it can really help..
Arrived November 2005........live in Happy Valley

You could try this lot: Dental Clinic Adelaide - Excellent Savings. Excellent Dentists. - they were recommended a while back by someone on Poms in Oz - but I was halfway through some root canal work at the time so it was too late for me!

I can only be nice to one person each day....today is NOT your turn...and tomorrow isn't looking too hopeful either.

      Hi,
I have seen both sides of this as I am a parent of 2 kids having ortho AND I work as a Dental assistant.

We have Mutual Community Silver plus extras and this seems quite fair compared to others I see coming through our surgery. I am allowed up to $700 per child per year for ortho (currently fees are about $2000 per annum)

All routine dentistry for the kids ie check ups, scale and clean, fillings is covered (no gap).

Myself and hubby get about 60% off our bills ie $200 bill, we pay $80 (perk of job though= no gap :) )
My dentist is a mutual community members first member though and this has a bearing on fees charged.
Also cover will differ for each person depending on which level of cover you take out.

Other health funds often pay less, BUT may be better if dental is not a priority for you and your family.

Worked for the NHS for 22 years, its not better or worse here, just different.
