Where to live

Hi All,

Would you mind telling me good areas to live in with good schools. My daughter is nearly 14 and my son is ten. We don't actually want to be on the beach but approximately 15 minute drive would be fine but would like to be near good shopping.

Our budget is approximately 700,000 dollars.

For that budget you have a lot of choice. Any of the suburbs on the western and southern side of Adelaide are 15 mins away from the beaches. There are some very good state high schools dotted around the place, but it depends what you are after in the school. Some of the schools specialise in music or languages for example, others have specialist streams in particular sports. Some also offer the IB programme. Have a look on www.realestate.com.au at the houses within your budget range. If it was me I'd be looking at Blackwood, Belair and surrounding suburbs, serviced by Blackwood and Unley High schools depending on which part you live in. Glenunga International or Marryatville High in the Eastern suburbs are considered to be good schools. But as I said there are other good high schools dotted around the place, but you need to consider what you want from the school and area you want to live in.

If you are after private schools then it doesn't matter which area you live in, it is whether the school has a place.

The North East is excellent too. About 30 minutes to the beaches, 20 minutes to the City, plenty of employment of all sorts (both in the City and in the Near northern suburbs) - excellent schools both state and private, primary and high, and plenty of green spaces, trees, hills, etc, with the Barossa about 30 minutes away for wine tasting! Also a good mix of nationalities, who all seem to mix in well with each other.

We have lived by the beach and in the hills and the only big difference is that in the inland suburbs there are no posh boutique style coffee shops to walk to its all malls and shopping centres but you get more space for your budget when it comes to homes.

Hi There,

Hope you don't mind me asking but when you lived inland did you find more creatures ie snakes etc, it's just i have a phobia with snakes and i was always told if I lived near a city or beach there would be less likely chance to find one in the house.

Is this the case.

snakes freak andrew out, but evey path to the beach had snake warnings, they like the dunes , but saying that, we didnt see one while we were there, they would rather keep out our way.

Been here 7 years and haven't seen a snake yet

Only brown snake I have seen since being here (6 years) is on the beach, next to a path, so not sure about the veracity of what you've been told!

You will have so much choice!!!

Proximity to a good school will be a real factor here.

 

Could I suggest that you do not become too attached to a suburb before you arrive.

I know of so many people that wanted to live in........"XYZ" but once here changed their plans entirely.

 

You'll be OK ,take your time.
