I am hoping to gain work in the Royal Adelaide Hospital. We have a child that will be 6 when we arrive so a good primary school close by would be handy and another child who will be 3 so other childcare facilities would mean that husband (who will be the childcare if not) could get a job. We are planning to have a car but would like to have easy access to local transport. We will be renting for at least a year in the first instance.

What areas would you suggest? We are not planning on coming until November 2010 but advice and help would be appreciated so that we can price up areas.

Many Thanks

Dawn

Hi Dawn,

firstly, welcome, secondly......congrats on the job etc.

Working in the city, you will probably want to be close enough not to travel too far; however i work with peeps from flagstaff in the south to mawson lakes in the north. Both a bit too far for my needs!

city, you could try joslin, prospect, walkerville.

west..........fulham, henley, brighton.

east........maghill, brooklyn park, marryatville

north...... dernancourt, athelstone, paradise(seriously, paradise!)

The range is incredible, with some burbs, like medindie, north adelaide are expensive but so close to everything!!

Have you checked out the DECS website? Its very useful for schools info.

Best regards

Jane

Goodwood, Parkside, Eastwood, Glenside, Fullarton, Unley, Glen Osmond are also quite close to the city - of course the closer you are to the city sometimes the rent is higher but depending where you pick if you are going to use public transport - then bus-tram tickets are cheaper.

plus the primary schools in Unley, Parkside, Glen Osmond, Linden Park, Magill, Burnside and Marryatville are all good. The high schools also that service these suburbs are all good too.

Of course there are lots of other areas which are just as good in Ads it just depends what you are looking for. Shift work can make long drives hard.
