rental agencies re references

Hi we have just over a week before we move and chase our dream, we are though just having a slight panic over renting a property, do we need a reference from a landlord in the UK or bank statements showing we have payed our mortgage, the problem is we have not rented and our mortgage was payed off a few years ago (not really a problem ) so we have no one to ask for a ref, we have been to the bank and got a bank credit statement will this be enough for rental agencies in Adelaide? We arrived in less than 5 weeks and secured a long term let in glenelg. The agent we used said they wanted oz references which we had but maybe thats coz we were still in uk? I would bring everything anyway. They wanted us to have the promise of a job. Good luck with it! Pm me if you need any more info xx

Like you we had never rented before and had nothing from the Mortgage lender. We have just secured a rental and gave them a personal reference from a friend, a reference from our Solicitor, a copy of the particulars from our last house sale and they phoned my OH's new Employer here and the people we have our short term rental from and they were more than happy with that. So if you can get any of that it should help.

Hi We are here at the moment on a reccie and the rental agent told us that if you did not have Oz references then reference from your estate agent saying your house was in good condition and well maintained or from your letting agent if you are renting it out and bank statements to show that you have enough money in the bank to pay the rent if you do not have a job yet.
