We're coming to Adelaide next month and will be looking for a long-term rental. What kind of references are usually needed? We rented in Melbourne for five years so have an Australian reference. Do estate agents require written references or are they happy with a contact number?

we were the same, they never followed up any references the 100 point check seemed enough.

The contact number will be fine. Also I assume you have a short term rental lined up??? If so the landlord of that will give you a ref.

Although you can get a rental without any references, the more support for your applications you can get the more chance of being excepted.
