As per previous posts we are pretty new to all this.
We are looking at short term rental before taking a longer rent. We feel we really have to be there and see an area before we commit to a longer time in an area.
We have looked at threads about this and OAA comes up a lot.
Sorry to expose such ignorance but what is OAA?
Hi, on arrival accomodation is what OAA stands for it is a service provided by South Australian state goverment for new arrivals, it is local goverment housing, basic but cheap and it is partly luck weather you get it and where you go. Have a look at the SA web site at http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au choose skilled worker from the menu on the left then services.

Simon is right. It is pot luck whether you get it. You can get it for up to 12 weeks. We asked to be in Onkaparinga area and were much closer to the city. Mind you it was cheap and we had an address from the start. We did have to go shopping for duvets/ sheets/ pillows when we got here. But it was $166 per week which included bills. It was basic but it was clean.
You get sent an email to let you know if you have got it. Then about 10 days before you arrive you confirm you still want it and then they tell you the address. All you need to do is fill in a form.
You can also get Meet and Greet - a free service which means someone will meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation. You don't need to be in OAA to use this. They took us to the shops and then took Bob to the city to get a tax file number etc. They sat down with us and made us write things down so we wouldn't forget - how right they were. Even though we wrote loads, 2 days later it made no sense at all and we had to phone them up!
Sorry but I've got a Q about the Meet & Greet service that I hope you might be able to clarify for me. When they meet you at the airport do they just give you the address & keys or do they actually take you &your luggage to the property or do you follow them in your own car? We are going to apply for this anyway but I just wondered. Thanks
Don't worry about the Qn -
Meet and Greet do just that but they take you to your accommodation. If they can they take you in their car but if, like us, you turn up with 3 kitchen sinks, then they pay for a taxi to get you there as well. I went in the taxi with the girls and 3 cases and Bob took the rest and went in their car. They made sure that everything on the checklist for the property was there, took us to the local shop so I could get the stuff I needed for a cup of tea and some light breakfast nibbles for the kids. We went back and just chatted. Then they took me off shopping to get the pillows/ towels/ duvets etc that we hadn't brought with us. I unpacked while they took Bob to the city to do some paperwork stuff and to show him where he needed to go for other bits and pieces and then they left about 2/3 pm. We arrived at 7.30am.
They were worth their weight in gold!
OAA is On Arrival Accommodation, short term furnished rental provided i believe by local government
hope this explains things
as others have said, the meet and greet services are great and are exactly what they say - we have met a few. We met friends and their meet and greet guys who were lovely - they OAA was basic but did the job but was in Port Adelaide but they were looking to settle north, so it suited them fine.
Good luck with it and if you are stuck, there is always our place, see link below.
Hi, Sounds great thanks for that
