hi we are coming over march april time on a 495 sir visa temporary and was told we had to rent for 2 years is this right as I've just read that somebody else on a temp visa is buying? can somebody help?
Didn't want this post to be lost off the first home page - so bumped it up!
I'm sure now us Poms are waking up, someone will be able to answer your question.
As far as I know, I think you can only buy a new build on a temp visa and you have to apply to the FIRB for approval.
I'm sure someone on here knows more about it then me!! ;)
you do need FIRB approval ( goverment permission) to buy on a temp visa, but you can buy old or new property if it is to be used as your main residence, if you want to buy investment property it has to be new if you are on a temp visa.
The estate agent or builder takes care of the FIRB application and it takes about 3 or 4 weeks max, just make sure when you make a offer on a property you make FIRB approval a condition of purchase and it is in the contract.
On an SIR you can buy old or new so long as you will be living in it. It can only be a new house if you are using as an investment. You just appy for FIRB approval - make 'subject to FIRB approval' a condition of sale in your contract and you will be fine.
oops just realised same as Simon had said!!!!!!!
Business and Information Professional?
Glad to see you've got some good advice on the housing front.
I'm also applying for a SIR Visa. I don't suppose you're going over on a Business and Information Professional Visa? If so, how's it going on the job front?
Best of luck,
Hi James, I'm a painter & decorator, on the 495 visa, been looking on the net, but had some advice yesterday on here that it's easier to get a job offer when we're actually there. How far are you along with your visa?
Not far enough!! We are having my skills assessed through Vetassess, and doing the next stage - compiling research for sponsorship by SA. How have you found doing this bit? We think it'll prob take a year from start to finish, if no hitches. Hoping to move early next year. How about you?
We've heard the same about job hunting. Have emailed recruitment agencies, but am getting automated email responses..a bit daunting to think the job hunt can't really start until we're actually over there and paying rent!!
It's taken about 3 years from start to finish for us as because we're not married we had to get stat decs from family and as I havn't got NVQ's, I've had to get references from my old employers, thank god they're still around! In 2006 we sent our papers off, and believe it or not the plane was delayed and my papers were received on my 45th birthday! This was an instant refusal. We fought this decision for 6 months and finally they saw sence and looked at our papers again. We got our visas last Friday, so as soon as the house is sold we're off!!!!!! We've heard a lot of people saying good things about Hallet Grove, there's a big population which is good for me for work.
