securing Long term rental from uk

just woundering if it is at all possible to secure a long term rental from here in the uk , know exactly where we want to go, has anyone on here done so.

I rang a real estate agent last week from here (UK) in Adelaide. She said you can but they much prefer it if they have been viewed first. The pictures on the websites are not always true to life. My Sister is in Adelaide and she said she would have a look for us. Do you have any mates or rellies that can view for you?

 

Or book to stay in a Motel for a week or so. Then you can have a gander.

thanks for your reply , we dont have any contacts so it just an idea we where thinking about, just seems so expensive to take a short term then have to move again .

What I've read on here and elsewhere is that the pictures you may see often don't give the whole picture and you really cannot get a good idea of the house till you've seen it in person.

 

A few photos really don't give you a feel for a house. You may know the area you want in general, but a specific street to live in, you may find renting blind has you next door to a bunch of noisy neighbours or some such.

 

It might be a hassle but pretty much everyone who posts on the subject rents somewhere short term to begin with and then rents a longer term once there. Very few agents like to rent without a viewing etc first.

 

Do you really want to sign away on 6 months or a year for a house you've never actually seen in a street you have not checked out? It could end up costing you more money. It could have damp problems, mould, smell and you wouldn't know till you arrive. Personally I'd not take the risk.

 

I'd look into staying in a cheapish motel/hotel for a week or two and just get busy as soon as you land to secure a long term rental.

yes snifter think you are right , thats what we will be doing , have got some leads for short term rentals so will follow them up..

We did 2 years ago. It put my mind at ease knowing we had somewhere to go when we arrived. It wasn't ready so we had to book elsewhere for a week before we could move in. Won't go into details but it all turned pretty sour very quickly and therefore, I would suggest you wait until you get here if possible and maybe go through a property management company as we did it privately.

 

If you do secure before you get here, I strongly advise you to keep all emails/correspondance/pictures you have been sent - just in case!!!

when do you arrive ?? I have a brand new house that i am going to rent out for 12 months.

Its a 4 bed , 2 bathroom. close to shops and about 20 mins walk ( 5 mins car ) to Moana beach( which you can see from the kitchen) .

Its in Seaford rise.

Some offices may be closed over Xmas / New Year, but most of these agents should be contactable by phone - especially if they have any available rentals.
