Renting with no job

Hi everyone

 

We are doing some pre-planning for our move to SA.

 

Once we get there we don't expect to get jobs as soon as we arrive. Most likely we will live out of our savings for a while (until we find employment or get our business going). We also don't plan on buying a house immediately as we would like to take some time (12 to 24 months) figuring out exactly where we would like to buy.

 

Since the estate agent / landlord would like to see that we have regular income what is the way around this? Has anyone here had this problem? Some friends have suggested that we offer six months rental up front.

As long as you can prove that you can pay your rent then you'll be fine. You can prove this either by showing regular income, or by showing enough savings to live off for a while.

Correct. We just showed them our bank account statement with $xx's and all was fine.
