Self build - How long?

Does anyone know approximately how long it takes if you build your own property, including the time taken to purchase the land? We've just signed up for a 12 month rental but there is a block of land for sale that we like the look of and might consider buying and self building but I don't want to go that route then find we have to pay huge fees to get out of the rental lease if everything is done in just a few months.

Thanks

Nicola

Hi Nic

It took us exactly a year from putting in an offer for lanus actually moving in after building. So I don't think you will lose out with renting for a year...there maybe a few weeks either side.

Good luck...we have build twice and have enjoyed the process and have been really happy with the end results

If you mean self build by the way of employing your own trades people it can take longer than getting one of the contract house builders a lot of the larger house builders have reduced there timescales. They used to be 26 weeks to build a lot of them have reduced them to 20 weeks and some even 16 weeks. You can buy the land and sit on it till you want to build but some have a time limit till you need to start building on it.

Hi, thanks both for the replies. I am reassured that we're not going to be moving in with 6 months left on the rental. It's looking more and more like we are going to go the self build route, just need to check we can get financing now.

Thanks again.

Nicola
