buying a block of land
We've been renting in Seaford Rise (love it!) for a couple of weeks now and we're investigating buying a block of land and building our own house. However we've discovered that we have to apply for permission through the FIRB first. Anybody else had any problems or been rejected by FIRB?

You'll have no problems - if you here on a temp visa - 495 - you'll be fine. Takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks to come back. The form however was very complicated!
I have bought 3 house and land packages, 2 from the uk before my visa one has just gone through , I had to apply for firb each time and had no problems, if you are buying from a builder or through an agent they will help with the forms, maybe you would just check and sign them. Just make sure that any contract for land has firb approval as a condition before you sign, also you have to complete the building of the house within 12 months of buying the land.
This is all if you are going on a temp resident visa, if you are going on a permenant visa you do not need firb approval and you can take as long as you like to build your house.:D
Hope your not planning to get one in Seaford rise we put our name on the waiting list last Oct and today were told that there is 300ish on the waiting list and we are 120th but they are only going to releise 50 blocks over the next 4 months. Thats on the Waves development Seaford Rise, might just forget about that one ....never mind plan B.
All 50 of the waves houses sold quite quickly but the big Hickinbothams site next door is having another land release soon. All the people who are on the waiting list for this one are pulling out and buying established as they have been waiting for the release since oct last year.

Is the Waves development the one that you access via Albany Way?
Cool - thanks for that. We've just got to play the waiting game to buy a block of land now!
Starting to plan our 'big adventure'
First post here, we are just back from our first visit to friends in Adelaide (our 'big trip') and are now planning our big adventure -making enquiries abour visa's, jobs, houses etc.
Al 41 (Electrical Engineer), Cath 44 (just) Social Worker, Danielle 17 Student and Chris 15 just starting final GCSE Exams.
I am sure we will have lots of questions over the comming months and look forward to any assistance members are able to provide.
Soggy, Having seen the way land prices are rising we are considering buying land for house construction prior to granting of Visa- Is this difficult and how did you go about it?
