Good suburbs north of seaford

Hi all,

 

We'll be moving over to Adelaide in the next few months. I was initially planning on working in the north but a last minute job change means it will most likely be seaford.

 

As part of my contract, my company will find a rental in a suburb of choice for the 1st year. Can anyone recommend any that are max 20mins drive north of seaford with good private primary and secondary schools? It would be nice to be 10-15min drive to the beach but don't want to be right on the beach as I know this is quite pricey. Good local amenities/parks for the kids would be great.

 

I was thinking of unley park but this seems v expensive? I would like to narrow down the search to about 4suburbs and personal recommendations would be most welcome. I've done lots of research for the northern suburbs but this last minute change of location has thrown me!

The thing is what are you looking for in the private schools. There are plenty of good suburbs within a 20 min drive of Seaford, so there is lots of choice, but if you want to be local to the private schools this will cut down your choice of suburb. For example, are you looking at single sex schools, schools which are combined primary and secondary, etc? Seaford itself if you are working there, is close to the beach, has parks and shops and decent housing stock. I'm sure the good people who live there will fill you in on the details.

Schools with combined primary/secondary would be good, preferably religious based - catholic if possible. Co-ed as well would be great. I would consider public schools but would like to keep options open with private schools available if needed.

These are pretty much all the private coeds south of the city and around Seaford. Unley Park would be an expensive suburb to live in, but there are many suburbs close by the beach that have reasonable rental rates. Some of the above schools also run school buses which have routes running through the South. If you find a school you like, then have a look at the suburbs rippling out from that and do a search of what is available for rent on http://www.realestate.com.au. Perhaps it would be better to have a look at the schools, shortlist the ones you may like, see if they have places but make final decisions once you have visited personally. Same with suburbs in which to live. Shortlist a few areas which seem to tick your boxes, then tour them when you are here for real practicalities. If your employer is wolling to pay a years rent then most likely they will pay for short term furnished to begin with while you obtain somewhere to rent longterm.

Don't know about the schools around there, but my OH is from Adelaide and when we were thinking about where to live Colonal Light Gardens was fairly high on his list. It's a bit south of Unley but I have no idea what house prices are like there.

Going by your driving distances, I can recommend the newer parts of Morphett Vale and Woodcroft. Been here for 5 years or so and find it very convenient, sort of central to all we need. Only 25 minutes into town as well. You can also get a train from nearby Lonsdale to Seaford when the electrification of the line is finished later this year.
