I need recommendations (and "steer clear of"s) please for buying a new machine. Lovely old John Lewis model condemned this morning (not that old, only 1995!) after breaking down Monday. Before I break down myself under the strain of the slower-than-usual-because-I-am-a-mean-mummy increasing washing mountain, please can you help me make head and tail of what's available here???!!!!!
I don't want a top loader with an agitator that is going to wreck my clothes. And especially not wreck the children's clothes which I want to make sure continue to be handed down from child to child and don't wear out quickly. (Most of our clothes are still English, ha ha!!!!, including the second hand clothes I was blessed to be able to buy off another PIA
member for DD, and will hopefully further be handed down!!!).
Oh, edited to add... I thought ages ago I'd seen an ad for a top loader that didn't use an agitator... then I'd be interested... Haven't been to a showroom yet, preferring to research first before I step into a shiny whitegoods minefield...
I am concerned about economy, water and electricity.
I would LOVE a larger machine (JL model was 6kg front loader, I'd now like upwards of 8kg).
I wash a LOT.
Current advice from a few Aussie friends on my round robin email this morning (blessed to know a few larger than average families!) is that Simpson don't come out well, and I have a friend who really regrets her Bosch purchase.
Man this morning recommended LG highly - he is a service agent for them and said that the back up was good.
Someone else (one of my friends) said that they were advised Fisher and Paykell were leaders.
Anyway, that's what I know so far. Please can you help with your own opinions, particularly if you have a larger family (4+ children) and a bigger machine.
Oh, and I hope to be able to get hold of the Choice report (Which? equivalent) but don't have it yet and also just value anecdotal evidence!
Thanks so much......
