Not found a good one yet. Were told about Charminar but not tried it yet. Problem we have found is too much sauce and not enough meat so it is more like a stew. We were a bit spoilt in Uk though as friend owned Indian restaurant and used to be able to get what we wanted. Since been here, Niki is the local curry cook for us and friends. Best bet, get an Indian cook book off Amazon and not the aussie version.

I'm surprised British India on Morphett St, CBD hasn't been mentioned! Fab food and gorgeous place, although hasn't got all the 'usual' dishes you might find in the UK, but has some of their own (even bizarrely fish & chips!). We've been there twice and loved it. Wouldn't hesitate to go back, that's for sure. Been to the Balti House on Goodwood a few times as it's our closest one, and had mixed results. Chicken Tikka Massala was a bit strange (their Chef special garlic chilli half chicken was fab though)....but by far the worst/weirdest was another on Goodwood (Nizams). Tasted suspiciously of chinese 5 spice, and it took them 30mins to find us less that 3k away, with SatNav! Won't be going back there, that's for sure. Real shame as they delivered and Balti House don't.
Incidentally, I don't much care whether it's a British, Aussie or wherever take on curry, so long as it's good! Some of the best ones I've had have been in Ibiza and Mallorca (and now Adelaide CBD!). So quality and skill far outweigh the 'origins', IMO.
