actually when i toured europe i was on a cruise ship where the currency was american dollars and i got a excellent rate, then with the euros i got another excellent rate, and again with the sterling another excellent rate, so i wasn't whinging at all, was quite happy. If i got the crappy rate then i chose to get that rate and would have lived with my decision and got on with life..

Stevo,of course you got an excellent rate thats the point everyone is trying to make ,its a bit different going on holiday to changing over your live saving's.We're every penny can be as important as live or death ,staying or going.
Try taking your blinker's off for an hour sometime's

Ok. Regardless of the exchange rate. Here are a couple of examples:-

uk my2000 daewoo matiz 83k mls £650
Oz $3,000

Uk ford fiesta wp my2004 £2000
oz $5600

Uk rover 75 my2001 91k mls £700
oz $12,000 (for the love of god. Why!). Sorry. There is another one for only $6900......

Uk my1996 Vauxhall Astra 95k mls £495
Oz Holden Astra my1996 105k kms $3250

Uk Vauxhall Astra my2008 15k mls £4750
oz Holden Astra my2008 51k kms $12195

Uk Porsche cayman s 60k mls my2007 £20,000
oz Porsche cayman S my2007 $79,000

Why the difference? New and nearly new seem simialar'ish. Depending on what exchange rate you use. I understand the luxury car tax.
But at the bottom end. The difference is huge! Are there no cheap run arounds?

Hi. Even using an exchange rate of $3.00 dollars to the pound. A rate that has not been seen for 10 years:-
Matiz = £650x3 dollars=$1950 not $3000
Rover 75 = £700x3 dollars=$2100 not $7000
1996 Astra = £495x3 dollars=$1485 not $3200
2008 Astra ok
Cayman £20,000x3 dollars=$60000 not $79,000.

So, I accept the exchange rate is very low at the moment and will be for some time. But, to me, from my limited study, they appear to be at least 50% overpriced.
I don't want to argue. I just don't understand why. Maybe it's supply and demand.

Anyway. I'm off to clear the hail stones from my £1000 jaguar xj6 sport windsreen.
