Semaphore is nice, I like it there, but I wouldn't never live there, especially considering where Dr. Scotland will be working. It's pretty isolated and way too 'Port Power' for me....LOL

No, we're up in the Hills as we can't quite afford to buy a beachfront property in Marino, Brighton, Seacliff, or Kingston Park

We live way south in Sellicks Beach and my wife works at the RAH. I would go for Brighton if we could afford to live that way and the surf life saving club are a good bunch - well, the Nippers certainly are.

Excellent, thanks. Is it easy to join a surf lifesaving club, as an adult? Very keen to try the surf boat racing, and generally transferring as much exercise as possible to the beach. Might start a new thread for that...

A very useful site for public transport is www.adelaidemetro.com.au put in a starting location and a destination and you will get various options and timings. Alternatively google RAA Trip Planner which is very good for driving between locations

Median house price for Glenelg: $592k
Median house price for West Beach: $595k

(Units are more expensive in Glenelg, though, because of the number around the marina.)

      Hi

We plan to move to SA in July, I have just come back from my third trip to Adelaide. The purpose of this last trip was to focus more on the area we plan to settle down in. From our experience / perspective, Glenelg is indeed a lovely place with a beautiful beach, and housing it more expensive than areas such as Hallet Cove / Christies Beach / Noarlunga. The beach is sandy and was very clean, it has a pier where a lot of people fish of off.

I was there during their summer holidays, I stayed in the Stamford Grand, and there was a 'little noise' coming from the square early in the morning and sadly there were a few drunks making a nuisance of themselves. There was always a police car positioned on the square itself, more for prevention. Lots of shops and of course the tram is great for nipping into the city.

Brighton is a beautiful beachside area, there are loads of shops and the beaches are stunning and you can fish of the pier if you are so inclinde. We rented a house for two weeks there October last year and we loved the area. The Brighton School is amazing and a real attraction for us, again the house prices in Brighton are similar to Glenelg if not higher. Even on the busiest day of the summer holidays, the beach was not very busy.... amazing.

The Westfield shopping Mall is just up the road and this is a very large Mall that has loads of shops, so you'll probably find most things there or certainly nearby.

Hallet Cove, the houses are cheaper than Brighton and although the beach is very nice, it is very rocky and there is hardly any sand at all; but none the less quite spectacular. But there are lots of walks you can go on along the cliffs, they are wildlife reserves and we saw plenty of 'interesting' creatures when we walked it (it goes for miles). The shopping is okay there as there is a reasonable shopping Mall which has everything. Brighton is about 10 - 15 minutes away from Hallet Cove, not far at all.

As I was informed, 20% of the population is apparently British (a Real Estater told me this).

Going further south, Christies Beach & Noarlunga both have beauiful sandybeaches and the houses are cheaper, the houses we looked at were cheaper than comparible houses in Hallet Cove. Noarlunga has it's own shopping Mall and loads of other larger 'out of town' type stores (furniture, baby products etc).

Aldinger also has a fine sandy beach, which you can even drive your car on to. We never looked at houses in this area as it is further south than we want to go. With regards to shops etc, I couldn't help you there as we basically used Aldinger Beach for a days rest when we were and it was wonderful.

Putting things into perspective, all of the beautiful sandy beaches are not that far where ever you decide to live. Noarlunga to Glenleg doesn't take long at all, Noarlunga to Aldinger also isn't a long drive.

Hope this is of some use to you.

Don't understand why you think Semaphore is isolated !

Semaphore has mini golf and a water slide thing, there are street fairs and funfairs there from time-to-time and there are lots of families around. It's very close to the train line and close to Port Adelaide which will one day 'happen'!
