We are living in Blackwood, just on the edge of the Adelaide Hills and really convenient for most places. I can get to the CBD in the morning in about 25 mins as long as traffic reasonable, Marion shopping Mall (huge place) is a 15 minute drive. Blackwood has lots of shops inc Woolworths, Coles and many individual shops. Blackwood High and Primary are good schools in my opinion. The beach is a 25 minute drive away and the trees here around the local suburbs give the place an English feel to some extent, but with much better weather! We love it here!

I was up that way yesterday.

Did not get mugged or hub caps pinched.

Quite nice up there in the NE especially in the hillier parts.

Only downside would be the distance to the beach.
      Quality furnished accommodation, in Adelaide.

      Great idea

We are in Aldinga Beach, we have built on one of the two new estates in Aldinga - Bayswood. We have always lived south since our arrival in Adelaide, stayed in Morphett Vale (Roo's Rentals) when we arrived initially, rented in Seaford Rise for 18 months and have now been here for 4 months. We picked the south because for us it was affordable, we had some money but not nearly enough to be mortgage free but didn't want to be working purely to pay the mortgage. We landed in Adelaide and were shell shocked in all honesty - it was grey and raining but as we headed down south, the vision we had in our heads of what we thought Australia should look like appeared. My children are at school in Willunga and we have lots of friends in the area although at the moment they are mainly poms there are a few aussies creeping thanks to the children in and we are trying to get involved with lots of community things. I think that there is a great community feeling here too.

There are two lasting bequests that we can hope to give our children - one of those is roots: the other is wings!

First landed in Kurralta park, great location, tram to city or Glenelg, but too built up. I'm know in Little Britain.....Hallet Cove, and love it, the views are great, the ocean, the trees and would always recommend a walk around Hallet Cove Res, beautiful views on a blue sky day. Haven't really meant any aussie's yet, but have meant some lovely pom's....We not all bad ....LOL x

Oooh, you wanna be careful what you say! I once (in jest of course!) suggested something similar in the presence of a Moderator and you should have heard the abuse I got!!! Have tried not to be so "immature and childish" since!

I can only be nice to one person each day....today is NOT your turn...and tomorrow isn't looking too hopeful either.

      Where to Live

Only comment I can make to anyone coming here is to keep an open mind regarding where to live. There are some fantastic places all over Adelaide and it is very easy to only look into areas others have suggested. I'm not sure whether it is still the case, but Elizabeth was always called pommy land (and it wasn't in a fond way) because when our parents moved here that was where they were steered to. the outcome of this situation, was that I never went to school with an Australian, dated an Australian (until I was in my 50s and newly divorced) I only started working with Australian's when I lived overseas.

Steering in the US by real estate agents is illegal (trying to group certain ethnicities into the one area) it was always a problem in the Adelaide area and to some extent continues to be so, I have friends who grew up in Croydon who have parents who still do not seak English 30 years on and really don't have to as their shops all are italian, their doctors, lawyers etcetera but not a good way to go. The same is happening with the African communities and asian.

Having lived overseas for over 20 years, it is easy to lean towards others from your own country, but sometimes it holds us back from achieving what we came here for in the first place to start anew. We are all so lucky to have this forum and to have made friends from the forum, but keep an open mind about where to live and where to send the kids to school.

Hope I haven't offended anyone. Have a lovely day.
