There is some useful information on www.domain.com.au in the Property Reports section.

Hi
We have just booked our one way flight and arrive on the 26 of January ! So ...we are quite busy at the moment as you can imagine ! This topic is great as we are currently working out where to get a place to rent ..... we haven't got jobs to go to as yet ( my wife is the main applicant as is a HR specialist ) so we are trying to find a place with good access to the CBD and a pleasant family environment .
We visited Adelaide in February for 3 weeks and loved what we saw . Having done research (research , research ...) we are wondering about the GRANGE area as this seems to be good for access , near the beach and have several schools.
Now , i appreciate no one can tell us the perfect place to live but if anyone has any comments on this area i would love to hear them .
Secondly , is there an Aussie version of OFSTED reports for schools ? is there any rating system we should be aware of ?
Oh , and should we bring the cooker , washer and dryer .
Any advice , positive or negative would be great .........
now shall i do some more packing , research car importing or have a glass of wine . Australian , of course !
Cheers Carl

Hi,
Grange was our first choice, my husband used to live here and has close ties to the area, but we have previously lived in Glenelg, Payneham, Seaton and Semaphore. Grange, Henley Beach, Tennyson and West Lakes are all really nice areas. If you look at the article in my post above on Most Liveable Areas you will see that Grange is one of the top 10. It is by the beach but the beach is not busy (unlike Glenelg). We are 10 minutes walk to the beach, the primary school (which is state but highly sought after), the train station (25 mins to the City) and 5 minutes drive to West Lakes Shopping Centre, AAMI stadium etc. It is a very convenient location but also quiet, as the closer you get to the sea the emptier the roads get.
The main problem here is that houses are pretty expensive (we are renting at present) and lots are getting knocked down and subdivided. We have had 2 2-storey houses being built over the back from us over the winter and now next door has been sold so we are wondering if that is going to become another building site too! At least we can move easily if it gets too bad!

Have read through all the posts on this thread, realy informative and interesting. Can anyone tell us the bigger, busier suburbs to live in that has schools, shopping centre, facilities for older teenagers? We don't want to be in a dead quite little suburb as know the kids would be moaning and make our lives a misery!!

We live in Evanston, near Gawler, which is about 15 mins drive north of Elizabeth. The rental prices are good and there are a few good schools. There is a train link into the city and has a real community feel. It takes us about 30 mins to get to semaphore beach and about 50 mins to an hour to get into the city with the new expressway. It's close to the Barossa valley which is beautiful. It's not for everyone but if your looking for a small friendly town it might be worth having a look at.
